Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role

The Biosecurity Intelligence team is comprised of talented and innovative scientists, social scientists, intelligence analysts and data scientists.

Team members work collaboratively, drawing on each of these disciplines to provide robust, threat intelligence for operational and strategic decision makers across the biosecurity system.

As one of two team leaders within the wider team you will be responsible for leading a small group of biosecurity intelligence analysts who are developing a forecasting and early warning system for Biosecurity New Zealand.

You will be a key team member who will work closely with the overall team manager and the analysts to shape and deliver scientific threat intelligence, while engaging across MPI to ensure that the intelligence produced is actionable, fit for purpose and client focussed.

Mōu - About You

Our ideal candidate will have :

  • A postgraduate qualification in a subject of relevance to biosecurity intelligence work, such as : intelligence, biosecurity science, security, international studies, or human behaviours.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical reasoning skills, including an ability to draw on a wide range of disciplines to elicit coherent understanding and insight.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability in developing and maintaining successful working relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in staff supervision and coaching.
  • Previous experience in intelligence processes and analysis (particularly open source intelligence).

    Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for at least the last ten ( 10) years , OR
  • is a citizen of, and / or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten (10) years : either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA;
  • and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
