  • The Team

    The Organisational Strategy and Systems business group leads, partners and support Maritime NZ's core purpose as the national maritime regulatory, compliance and response agency.

    The Property and Procurement team provides a range of services and advice across the three core areas of property and facilities, procurement and contract management, and business support services, including vehicle fleet and travel management, and frontline reception services.

    In this role, you will be responsible for :

    Working closely with the Manager Property and Procurement, to ensure that our offices and property assets provide safe, fit-for-purpose and sustainable working environments for all Maritime NZ staff.

    This will cover all aspects of property and facilities management, including delivery of advice and services such as space planning, lease and contract management, internal and external relationship management, asset and equipment management and purchasing.

    You will also have a leading role in a range of different property projects and initiatives, including playing a pivotal role in a large workplace transformation programme of work, which will have a significant impact on our current property footprint.

    Ideally you will have a good level of experience and understanding of what's required working within Government's property principles and practices including Crown Office Estate reporting requirements.

    As a confident communicator you will have the ability to network across our organisation and engage regularly with other agencies to ensure we keep up to date and compliant with AoG and public sector property best practice.

    What you'll bring to this role

  • In depth understanding of machinery of government including the Government's property and procurement principles and practices;
  • Property project management experience and the ability to lead and influence change;
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills;
  • A focus to delivering long-term value through best practice property lease and asset management, including the ability to oversee the planning, negotiation and execution of leases to align with MNZ's long-term property strategy
  • The ability to solve complex problems and undertake risk identification, analysis and management;
  • The ability to think both critically and creatively, and apply a solutions-focused approach to everything you do
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills and experience providing advice to people at all levels including executive management;
  • Proven ability to mentor colleagues and junior team members;
  • A working knowledge of property / building, facilities management and HSW standards and legislation;
  • Demonstrated ability to understand financial data and information, cost out all options and support recommendations with quantitative data;
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross cultural issues and concerns, in particular knowledge of tikanga Maori, and Pacific peoples' culture;
  • Experience identifying and implementing improvements across property and facilities activities
  • Experience developing and implementing system and process improvements;
