About the Role

We are looking for an experienced professional in risk and assurance to work with our Corporate Leadership Team and business units to lead the delivery of effective risk management, assurance controls and governance processes.

This is a senior role with a high degree of autonomy with the opportunity to influence outcomes for the organisation and the community.

You will have overall responsibility for the delivery of internal audit activity and ensure alignment of key risk assurance activities across the Council Group.

About you

You will be able to provide strong risk and assurance leadership and demonstrate an ability to communicate with people at all levels, and where necessary manage robust conversations.

You understand the principles of effective risk and assurance management, process and work involved in overseeing compliance with the risk management policy and framework.

You can offer insight and skills in best practice so our policies are aligned, and you have the communication skills to drive the correct outcomes.

You bring a practical approach to risk and assurance management and are willing to work closely with staff across the council to help them understand their role in lifting risk maturity at Council.

Because you will be leading Risk and Assurance across the Council Group, we will be looking for your willingness and ability to work across both.

Ideally you have been experience in the Public Sector and know how to coordinate internal auditing activities and plans with providers of assurance and work towards greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Skills and Experience we desire include

  • At least 10 years' experience in risk and audit at a senior level and the ability to be independent and objective
  • Qualified accountant with more than 10 years post qualification experience
  • Experience liaising with and providing advice to senior management and governing body.
  • Strong knowledge of audit processes, procedures and business risk identification and management
  • Proven experience in business process and internal controls / risk management frameworks
  • Excellent communication, business writing and presentation skills
