Waikato Hospital - Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy

Permanent 40 hours per week (1 FTE)

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic therapy assistant to join our in-patient Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy team.

This is a flexible position that can cover clinical areas across any of our in-patients services such as medical, surgical, older person’s and rehabilitation and Orthopaedics.

  • The work involves task such as;
  • Supervising patients to go through their exercise programme as prescribed by a qualified Physiotherapist / Occupational therapist
  • Helping patients to regain their independence with activities of daily living following medical illness / surgery
  • Assisting the qualified staff to run exercise groups
  • Cleaning, issuing, restocking / ordering of equipment such as walking aids and exercise equipment
  • Perform basic administrative tasks
  • a positive and flexible attitude
  • an ability to work as part of a team
  • good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • basic computer skills
  • excellent time management skills and an ability to flex and adapt depending on work demands
  • an awareness of other cultures
  • a current full NZ drivers licence
  • prior experience in a healthcare setting would be beneficial

    Allied Health is a department of the Waikato DHB that provides Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Dietetic, Audiology & New Born Hearing screening, Social Work, and Psychology services.

    Staff within these professions are all involved in direct client care and work in a wide range of situations to improve the health and wellbeing of the people they work with.

    Their work includes people who are acutely unwell in hospital, or requiring rehabilitation for serious illness or injury, people who have chronic illness or disability and need to improve functional independence and quality of life.

    Allied Health staff work in partnership with individuals and their family / whanau to facilitate relationships and a smooth journey through the healthcare system.
