Te Whiwhinga mahi The opportunity

As the Student Support Advisor - Māori your main focus will be to support our Māori and Pasifika students through the provision of wellbeing, pastoral care, learning support and mentoring combined with administrative activities.

The role presents fantastic opportunities for professional development and exposure in New Zealand’s leading University, all while being able to live in Te Tai Tokerau!

Please note this is a part time 0.6fte (22.5 hours / week), fixed term (12 month) position. This is largely a front facing role so you will need to be present on campus to fulfil the requirements, however there is flexibility across the days and hours that you work.

You will be driven to deliver excellent academic outcomes for our students. You will show initiative, have excellent planning skills and you’ll be able to show that you are a methodical thinker.

You have the opportunity to take this role and shape it around our current workplan. Your communication style is adaptable, and you will have a solid administrative background.

You will take pride in your work and will celebrate the milestones achieved.

Skills and experience

  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment is essential
  • It would be advantageous to have a thorough understanding of the New Zealand tertiary education sector
  • Experience working with tertiary students or academics involving pastoral care responsibilities is a definite advantage
  • Demonstrates problem solving ability requiring judgement and interpretation
  • Have an excellent understanding of Te Reo Māori me ona tikanga
