About the Historic Claims team

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) provides an Alternative Disputes Resolution Service (ADRS) to assist claimants address concerns and abuse whilst in State care.

The ADRS is underpinned by the principles of Tikanga Māori, Mana, Aroha, Whakapapa, Whānaungatanga, Manaakitanga and Pono.

The team is currently made up of highly culturally responsive people who are specialists in assessing claims.

About this role

You will collate information about a claimant’s time in care by assessing and providing a recommendation to complete their claim.

This role is pivotal to helping claimants.

What you will need to succeed :

  • Ability to review and interpret large amounts of complex and sensitive information to make informed decisions
  • Superb writing skills
  • Solution focused with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and positive attitude
  • Flexible and resilient with the ability to cope under pressure
  • Working collaboratively towards building a great claimant experience
  • Able to work in a team that is committed to upholding the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, the development of a service that is culturally responsive and incorporates Tikanga Māori
  • In addition, the Senior Claims Assessor will :

  • complete the more complex claims assessments
  • provide peer review for assessments; and
  • provide support, mentoring and guidance to Claims Assessors
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equal experience is desirable for those interested in a senior role.
