If you’re interested in the racing industry, have extensive governance experience, are a clear thinker and can facilitate good decision-making, then consider becoming the Chair of the Racing Safety Development Fund Industry Working Group.
The Department of Internal Affairs, on behalf of the Minister for Racing, is calling for applications from candidates to take up this role.
Background about the Fund and the Industry Working Group
The Racing Safety Development Fund was established in 2007. It is a contestable $1 million per annum fund that matches dollar-for-dollar contributions from racing clubs.
It allocates funding for projects that enhance the safety of racing and the quality of facilities for jockeys, harness riders, racing animals and racegoers.
The Chair is appointed by the Minister for Racing. The other three members represent the racing codes (New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, Harness Racing New Zealand and the New Zealand Greyhound Racing Association).
What skills and experience are required?
In addition to extensive governance experience, you will have a background in finance, commercial or business, and knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
Knowledge about the racing industry, while not essential, will be advantageous.
Your core responsibility will be overseeing discussions on funding applications and ensuring the Working Group makes robust decisions that support the goals of the Racing Safety Development Fund.
The members of the Working Group assess applications and decide which applications will receive funding.
