    Our Regional Forensic Mental Health Service (RFMHS) is accepting applications for a Clinical Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team.

    The RFMHS provides forensic mental health input across Otago and Southland and includes a 13 bed medium secure inpatient ward 9A in Dunedin, forensic community teams and regional prison and court liaison services.

    The role is primarily based within the Medium Secure Unit of Ward 9A working with a full multidisciplinary team to deliver a range of therapeutic services and programmes.

    Ward 9A has a strong emphasis on linking people with family / whānau and support persons and reintegration into the wider community.

    About the Role / About You

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join the RFMHS based at Wakari Hospital on a part time basis.

    In this position you will primarily work on Ward 9A medium secure unit with consumers / tangata whaiora referred for assessment and / or treatment from the prison and court setting.

    As the core patient population are special patients; there is a key focus on rehabilitation to assist patients with complex needs to reintegrate back to the community.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist with previous experience of working in the mental health sector.

    You will have well developed and proven group facilitation and communication skills and be an effective time-manager. Previous experience with court processes and violence risk assessment and treatment would be beneficial although ongoing training and education will be given to the successful candidate on forensic-specific issues.

    In this role you will require good time management skills to enable your assessment, planning, and delivery of effective clinical psychology interventions for consumers / tangata whaiora.

    You will have a passion for supporting people with mental illness, be able to participate in individual and group therapies and contribute actively to the multi-disciplinary team.

    Ensuring the continued wellbeing of consumers / tangata whaiora will see you liaising extensively with other clinical psychologists within the organisation to facilitate both inpatient and outpatient care.

    We provide a thorough orientation to the role and will support your ongoing professional development needs. Future professional development areas within RFMHS include psychological input into the care of mentally disordered prisoners, completion of court-ordered health assessor report and community follow up for consumers / tangata whaiora who have successfully re-established their lives in the community.

    To be considered for this role you must be a Registered Clinical Psychologist with the NZ Psychologist’s Board, hold a current practising certificate and NZ drivers licence to apply for this role.
