Laboratory work

  • To ensure that all analytical tests, methods and validation procedures, records and test results are completed as required by Laboratory's Quality Systems Manuals.
  • To carry out routine tests within the required time frames and within employment contract work time agreements.
  • To train other staff where appropriate.
  • To ensure the maintenance of equipment for the Laboratory and ensure their smooth and safe operation. To complete Laboratory housekeeping tasks as required.
  • To ensure the Customer satisfaction is assured in the most effective, efficient and courteous way.
  • To prepare for and participate in Cawthron's performance management process and the Laboratory's regular review meetings.
  • To participate in training and professional development as identified in the review meetings so that best practices are applied.
  • To encourage active communication and listening within the Laboratory and Cawthron.
  • To carry out all work, and to behave at all times within the Cawthron employment contract confidentiality agreement.
  • To care for and maintain Laboratory equipment, property, and consumables up to agreed standards.
  • To communicate clearly with other team members
  • To enter information on computer system
  • Any other tasks requested by your supervisor

  • No formal responsibility for staff.
  • No authority to commit to expenditure or enter into contracts.

  • BSc or equivalent (e.g. Diploma in Science level 6)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a commercial laboratory environment
  • Experience with microbiology laboratory quality systems
  • Experience with microbiology laboratory techniques including media preparation, sample preparation, sample testing, reading / entry of results for routine microbiology and GMP accredited testing services.
  • Ability to use balances, pipettes, and laboratory tools
  • Ability to remain focused, consistent, and efficient
  • Attention to detail
  • Willingness to complete hands-on routine tasks
  • Teamwork
  • For staff that work in or with contaminated freshwater or seawater Vaccinated, or willingness to be vaccinated, against Hepatitis B (Engerix), Hepatitis A (Havrix), Hepatitis A & B (Twinrix), Poliomyelitis, and Tetanus / Diptheria every ten years.
