This is a full-time permanent position with a team based in Wellington but open to negotiation for this position to be in any region within New Zealand.
Department of Conservation / Te Papa Atawhai's fleet does not just include vehicles, it also includes boats, trailers, trucks, diggers, lawnmowers, side by side LUVs and small plant like chainsaws and scrub bars.
These assets are dispersed throughout Aotearoa, including many of our islands, thus the Fleet team are required to think creatively about how they supply service to ensure our teams can undertake their important work throughout the country.

He angitūtanga : About the Role : As the Vehicles Equipment and Machinery Manager you will lead a small team and a network of matrix managed regional support coordinators to implement and manage nationwide consistent policies, approaches, and financial parameters to manage the departments fleet.
Your team is responsible for the project management for new fleet items from concept and thinking differently about fleet usage through business case compilation, tender, purchase, and logistics of delivery.
The management of the fleet considers business requirements to deliver superior customer outcomes whilst adhering to all of Government mandates (including the Government's Climate Change response), our strategic priorities and what is possible within approved budgets.
You will be responsible for the overall Fleet Strategy and identifying short- and long-term initiatives. He kōrero mōu : What we are looking for : From your previous Vehicle, Equipment or Machinery experience you will have the ability to think strategically about the use of the departments fleet, to not only meet the governments and organisations requirements, but also the needs of the teams at place.
As a people leader you will have engaging communication style and the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate successfully with others, such as other Te Papa Atawhai teams, other government agencies and external suppliers.
You will have good project management skills with the ability to support your team with the projects they are undertaking.
You can think strategically and plan with your team and then turn those ideas into operational benefits. Most importantly you will have strong commercial acumen, a positive attitude with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get the work done and an enquiring and innovative mind with a desire to challenge the norm and find creative solutions.
