About the role : District Nurses work autonomously in the heart of the community enabling people to receive care either at home or in their local area.
This is varied and interesting work across all ages and demographics. The role covers both rural and urban bases within the Hamilton & Rural Family Health team, but is predominantly based in the Te Awamutu area.
You will need to have flexibility to work across both the rural and urban settings, as well as the ability to work autonomously.
Scope of work includes management of wound care, IV therapy, PICC / PORT care, patients with rheumatic fever requiring penicillin injections, domiciliary oxygen therapy, assessment for continence products, and IDC / SPC care.
This role also involves palliative care including end of life care + / - NIKI pump. Due to the complexity of cases, you will need to have excellent assessment skills and time management.
As this is a 7 day a week service with hours between 8am - 5pm, the successful applicant will be required to work rostered duties, including weekends and some on-
call. Orientation to this role is well supported and tailored to the needs of the successful applicant. You must have sensitivity to cultural aspects and the ability to apply the Treaty of Waitangi principles to practice. It would be an advantage to have previous experience in district nursing and / or an advanced knowledge in wound management, and palliative care experience.
