Waikato Hospital is a provider of secondary and tertiary health and disability services to the Waikato District and the wider Midland region.
The population base for the Waikato areas is 350,000. The catchment for advanced trauma specialties in the broader Midland region is 890,000.
The fellowship position is a full time one, including both elective and acute surgery. Participation in the on-call senior registrar roster is required.
The spectrum of work is both broad but subspecialized at the same time. The appointee will be exposed to a high volume of tertiary endocrine surgery, including thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal work.
Both primary and revisional bariatric work is included, plus a good range of other elective general surgery. Extensive exposure and responsibility for acute general surgery patients is also part of the position.
There is a requirement to participate in the activities of the advanced nutrition support team, which will give experience with intestinal failure patients.
The Fellow position is part of the General Surgery Department and is available from early December 2018 for 12 months. The Fellow will be on the after-
hours registrar roster, excluding night duty. Applications are called from doctors qualified in general surgery to FRACS level or equivalent who are or will be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
