Community Health Worker Coordinator Auckland Sexual Health Services

  • Are you experienced in leading the promotion of community sexual health and wellbeing education? Or do you have an interest in this area?
  • Are you a champion of change and like providing a space to help shift and shape people’s attitudes to sexual health as a component of general health?
  • Do you desire to have courageous conversations with people based and driven by a belief in empowerment, equality and open and honest communication?
  • As the coordinator of the education unit at Auckland Sexual Health Services you will have three main areas of focus :

  • Being a programme coordinator and mentor of the Peer Sexuality Support (PSSP) Programme within a variety of secondary schools in the Auckland regional area including delivery of three residential hui at the start of each year.
  • Deliver high quality sexual health education and promotion events for priority populations and those agencies, organisations or supporting services engaging with them, including;
  • training institutes, tertiary providers, schools, community organisations and iwi based providers within the Auckland regional area.

  • Leading a small team in providing the above services
  • Āhurutanga, Rangatiratanga, Mōhiotanga and Manaakitanga are the four guiding values that underpin the education unit’s practise.

  • The ability for people to achieve autonomy over their sexual wellbeing.
  • The capacity and space for people to gain insight and awareness through education, health promotion and appropriate support.

  • Professional and effective communication is a must, and you'll need to be able to do so with varied age groups, walks of life and internal / external agencies.

    There is also an expectation that you will be able to create and nurture relationships within the communities the Education Unit work with, therefore culturally appropriate engagement experience is desired.

    Actively creating networks with public and sexual / reproductive health organisations regionally and nationally is also an integral part of the role.

    A relevant qualification related to this area of work would be advantageous (youth work, education, nursing, social work) as is previous engagement with the PSSP programme and evidence of previous facilitation work.

    However, we are looking for a star that will fit within and lead a small team, while still being able to shine.This is may be a full or part time permanent role.
