Team Leader, Tracing and Networks Analysis Fixed Term

New Zealand's Mycoplasma bovis Eradication Programme, is a world first effort to eradicate this cattle disease from a national herd.

Elimination of this disease will help protect the productivity of our dairy and beef industries, part of our multi-billion-dollar export economy and New Zealand way of life.

The Programme environment is dynamic, as it adapts quickly to increase the effectiveness of our eradication methods, works to reduce the impact on affected farmers, and ultimately leave New Zealand's biosecurity system stronger.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Tracing and Network Analysis team are responsible for tracing animal movements and understanding the infection network using the extraction and analysis of data, to identify, movement events relevant to the programme.

The team tracking these movements of cattle using a variety of information sources, including the National Animal Identification and Tracing (NAIT) scheme the work is complex and detailed.

As the Team Leader you will report to the Manager, Tracing and Network Analysis and will lead a team of Senior Analysts and Analysts who are responsible for ensuring all tasks related to animal movement tracing and network analysis are completed to the highest standards and information is reported in a timely manner to other workstreams and managers.

Key duties but not limited to :

  • Develop models, systems and core frameworks required for the team to carry out its directive.
  • You'll make sure that processes and procedures work and sensible improvements are implemented, ensuring all our teams are on the same page.
  • Provide leadership and management to staff within the function by ensuring robust processes for communication, engagement, learning and development and performance management are implemented.
  • Contribute to the Tracing and Network Analysis strategic plan.
  • Cross function collaboration between team leaders and within the Disease Control and Service Integration Group.
  • Mōu - About You

    We're looking for someone with proven Team Leadership experience. You'll be a trusted leader with the ability to build and grow a high performing and functioning team, providing strong coaching as well as identifying development opportunities.

    You will be technically strong and operate Microsoft office at an advanced level. Ideally, you'll have an understanding of the farming sector particularly beef and dairy farming in NZ.

    You will have experience using big data sets for network analysis with and understanding of biology / disease control.

    In addition, and not limited to :

  • Supports and reinforces high performance coaches / mentors individuals.
  • Has the ability to make decisions in uncertain situations.
  • Takes steps to fully understand the problem, whilst exploring different solution and options.
  • Manages and delivers on work priorities
  • Be a clear communicator, you 'll be able to explain complex data in clear and concise terms
  • Have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field
