Kaikoura Healthcare is a General Practice with a strong community focus. We have a mental health and wellbeing team who work alongside our GPs, Practice nurses, Hospital staff and community agencies to support the provision of the best possible care for our community.

We are looking for an experienced Practitioner with health or social services qualifications in, or related to, child and family mental health and with minimum of 12 months experience working in a mental health setting within a clinical or community role.

This role will ideally suit a qualified Social Worker, Nurse, Counsellor or Occupational Therapist with a passion for working with children and families who are facing complex challenges.

This role is part of the newly established CDHB Mana Ake Mental Health in School initiative and is for 20 hours per week until 30 June 2021.

Along with your 20 hours per week you will also be required to conduct youth counselling for eight hours per week as apart of this role.

The Mana Ake - Stronger for Tomorrow initiative aims to work with and through school communities to support families and whanau when children from years one to eight are experiencing ongoing challenges that are impacting their wellbeing.

As part of this role you will provide practical support and positive strategies to build resilience for children referred to the service and their families through primary schools.

This work will often require multi-level collaboration and / or partnered responses with variety of support system within community agencies in order to facilitate good outcomes with our clients.

Ideal skills and experience :

  • Level 6+ health or social service related qualification with relevant child and family mental health competencies
  • At least 12 months experience in working in the field of mental health
  • Ability to carry out robust assessment within a framework of children's mental health
  • Sound working knowledge of the key agencies that work with families in the health, education and community sectors
  • Confident to work both independently and alongside others who are working within school cluster
  • Working knowledge of behavioural and developmental issues relating to families and children
  • Has a working knowledge of CYP&F Act, Children's Action Plan including Vulnerable Children's Act and Domestic Violence Act or willingness to train
  • Has experience in liaising with other stakeholder groups, for example, Oranga Tamariki (CYF), Work and Income, schools, other education and health providers, other relevant community agencies
  • Membership to an appropriate professional body
  • Knowledge and understanding and commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to utilise information technology including case management systems
  • Ideally you will be IT literate and able to work in a busy environment, comfortable managing a caseload while contributing your skills and expertise to the broader team.
