What success looks like in this role :

Unisys provides one of New Zealand’s major financial institutions with an application used by all tellers as well as back office staff.

While based on a standard Unisys offering, the application has been extended over time to meet specific bank requirements and is integrated with the wider client computing environment, infrastructure and peripherals.

We are looking for a senior developer to join a small team of Unisys staff who provide business analysis, development, testing, and support services on site, delivering fortnightly releases of prioritised enhancements to this application.

The team is based in Wellington although remote working would be considered. There is an on-call component. As part of an agile team, the successful applicant will also contribute to team leadership and direction, quality management, change and release management, and other disciplines.

Knowledge of and experience with agile values and practices is essential, and automation experience would be an advantage.

The application consists of client libraries written in C / C++, a web application that uses ASP Classic, JavaScript, VB Script, MSMQ, XML / HTTP, CSS, XSL, XML, and COM+, and MS SQL Server 2005 as its DBMS.

MS Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server are used for code and build management. The client uses Remedy for the incident and problem management.

Key Responsibilities :

As a key member of our development team, you will help implement and co-ordinate change within the Unisys application and environments, provide guidance to those who interact with the application, and troubleshoot production issues either within the application or the wider client environment it operates within.

You will develop a good understanding of the client’s business activities and drivers, and you will review infrastructure and application trends, as part of an ongoing improvement process.

At least three years’ experience with C++ or similar and Windows development, an understanding of databases and SQL server, good analytical and problem-solving skills, great team and customer-service orientation with an emphasis on open, honest and clear communication, and a strong preference for working collaboratively as part of a strongly-self-managing team.

Additional Skills and knowledge preferred :

Experience with ASP, Java, SQL, Microsoft Team Foundation Server, Visual Studio, and VSCode, familiarity with banking systems and processes
