He angitūtanga : About the RoleThe Aquatic Unit has a 6-month fixed term or secondment opportunity for a Technical Advisor Marine Kaimātanga Takutaimoana to join our team of technical and scientific experts.

The overarching focus of this role is to influence and advise on the development of open ocean aquaculture. In the role, you will :

  • Provide scientific and specialist advice
  • Review and influence policy development
  • Influence, build and sustain collaborative relationships The position is a fixed term or secondment opportunity, ideally based in Dunedin or Invercargill, however we are open to alternative locations.
  • He kōrero mōu : What we are looking for : You will have a passion for supporting the conservation and management of marine ecosystems and will be an expert marine coastal scientist / planner, familiar with the Resource Management Act (RMA) and the application of the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement.

    Experience in the field of aquaculture would be a significant advantage given the purpose of the role. We want to hear from you if you have :

  • Qualifications in marine biology or ecology (or relevant field), and technical knowledge in the protection and recovery of aquatic species and ecosystems.
  • Enjoy a fast paced, often reactive environment that will require extensive engagement across the Department, and with partners and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, and are confident using these skills to influence and collaborate with others.
  • Experience planning, leading and managing cross functional projects, meeting timeframes and budgets.
  • Experience working in partnership with iwi, and understanding of tikanga Māori and mātauranga Māori. Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou : What's in it for you?
