About the opportunity

As Technical Officer Microbiology / Food Assurance you will join a fun and motivated team and work in our world class microbiology lab at the Research and development Centre in Palmerston North.

With attention to detail and accuracy, you will provide laboratory technical expertise to scientists and researchers to support innovation by investigating designing and driving your own experiments.

You will receive robust training and mentoring from a highly dedicated team that is supportive and inclusive and get exposure to world class facilities to :

  • Deliver high quality, solution focussed, science-based data to support Fonterra’s Food Assurance Scientists along with project teams
  • Provide technical support for research as part of a high-performing, knowledgeable, supportive team of food safety specialists
  • Adopt good laboratory practices and adhere to all regulatory requirements
  • About you

    With the proven ability to support and communicate well with a variety of stakeholders, you’ll excel within a team environment.

    To successfully support researchers and scientist onsite, you are highly adaptable, flexible and organised in your approach.

    You will have worked in a microbiology or molecular biology laboratory before and have a strong passion for microbiology and bacteria.

    A few key attributes :

  • Proven experience of good laboratory practice and aseptic technique in Microbiology
  • Strong scientific methodology focus and background ideally in Microbiology
  • Relationship management and communication skills in both written and verbal presentations
  • A positive co-operative approach to your work, strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Microbiology or related discipline is highly regarded in this role
