Job Details

The vessel is based in Nelson. Trips are worked on a paid trip on, paid trip off basis.

This role supports the Chief Engineer to manage the mechanical and electrical performance of the vessel's propulsion, fishing, processing and ancillary systems in a safe and efficient manner.

This role works the opposite shift to the Chief Engineer.

You must have the following :

  • Minimum of MEC 6 qualification or higher
  • Problem solving skills
  • People management skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with other staff and external contacts
  • Commitment to preventative maintenance systems
  • Ability to monitor internal and external trends pertaining to marine engineering operations
  • Ability to communicate well and build good relationships
  • Supervisory and training experience.
  • Have proven experience working aboard fishing vessels is essential.

    Who we are looking for

    You will have a mminimum MEC 6 ticket or equivalent with good machining and general engineering skills with a strong commitment to Health and Safety.

    This role will also require you to have sound knowledge of PLC controlled equipment and electrical problem solving skills.

    You will be committed to preventative maintenance systems and maintain a sound knowledge of internal and external trends pertaining to marine engineering operations.

    You will be comfortable working in a demanding environment, using your multitasking abilities, adapting to new situations quickly and exercising sound judgement.

    You'll also need to have plenty of energy, a can do attitude and the desire to focus on problem-solving where required.
