You will provide secretarial support, advice and governance in support of three independent statutory boards, administered by Veterans’ Affairs New Zealand : the Veterans’ Advisory Board, the Veterans’ Entitlements Appeals Board and the Veterans’ Health Advisory Panel.
Your key responsibilities include :
Providing administrative support for the boards, including documentation, correspondence, meeting bookings, agendas, and minutes;
Providing advice relating to legislative requirements and best practice governance;
Effectively building and managing internal and external relationships;
Providing support on board matters to the Minister for Veterans, including assisting in the process to appoint board members;
Managing board information and records;
Managing hearings of evidence and associated documentation and follow-up action for the Veterans’ Entitlements Appeal Board, a quasi-judicial tribunal; and
Managing, on behalf of the Veterans Health Advisory Panel, the applications process for research funding.

You will have proven board secretariat skills with previous experience working across multiple and complex boards. You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships across a variety of stakeholders.
You will also bring :
Proven experience in advising senior staff or board members on such matters as legislative requirements, terms of reference, governance, or procedure;
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an eye for detail;
Effective workflow management and prioritisation skills;
A high level of relationship management skills, including the ability to liaise confidently and professionally with a wide range of people;
A demonstrated ability to work effectively and accurately, and achieve results with minimum supervision; and
A high degree of personal integrity; and proven ability to work with sensitive, personal and confidential information.

Veterans’ Affairs New Zealand (VA) provides support and services for veterans and their families.
The work of VA involves :
Administration of the Veterans’ Support Act 2014, and delivery of entitlements, services and supports to eligible veterans;
Providing policy advice about veteran-related matters to the Government
Supporting veteran attendance at commemorations of significant military anniversaries;
Delivering outreach programmes to improve awareness of available services and supports via face to face, virtual and digital engagement; and
Working in partnership with veteran support and advocacy organisations.
The three boards, which this role supports, are administered by Veterans’ Affairs, but their work is independent of Veterans’ Affairs.
The work is based on legislative requirements (detailed in the Veterans’ Support Act 2014) and ministerial direction.
