term roleHe angitūtanga : The opportunityThe Māori Strategy and Relationships department is made up of Te Waka Anga Mua ki Uta, the canoe berthed ashore, and Ngā Waka Anga Mua ki Tai, the fleet of canoes that are on the water.
Te Waka Anga Mua ki Uta is the central unit of Māori expertise within Auckland Council and has a strategy and planning function within the organisation.
Ngā Waka Anga Mua ki Tai is the network of Māori expertise distributed across Auckland Council which consists of one virtual hub in the Operations Division, one virtual hub in the Chief Planning Office, and three individual roles within various departments.
There is an exciting opportunity within the Māori Strategy, Policy and Effectiveness team in Te Waka Anga Mua Ki Uta for a Communications Advisor to manage Te Mātāpuna, the Māori Information Portal.
You will be making an important contribution to Auckland Council’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and celebrating Tāmaki Makaurau Māori identity.
Reporting to the Head of Māori Strategy, Policy and Effectiveness and working closely with the Manager Māori Engagement Initiative, you will be the curator and lead for the oversight and management of Te Mātāpuna.
You will support development of the portal as it prepares for launch. Once the portal is live you will support timely and accurate delivery of change and communications to launch the plan, supporting council group awareness and effective use of the tools and resources of the portal.
You will manage the content maintenance schedule, support council group awareness and advise, plan and implement communications strategies and activities related to sharing progress on Māori outcomes and the Māori responsiveness work of the department.
He kōrero mōu : About youWe are looking for an innovative, savvy communicator who has experience of operating in a political environment and coordinating with a diverse range of stakeholders.
You will have significant experience in a communication, learning and development, website or intranet management or related role, hold a relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant e.
g. communications, public policy, political studies, learning and development or engagement, with the skills needed to organise and independently manage projects in a political or complex environment.
Being proficient in written and spoken Te Reo Māori is an advantage, as is an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within both a historical and contemporary setting.
You will be an adept relationship builder, and effective at communicating with a range of different groups and individuals, you will be confident navigating complex environments and hold a genuine interest in better understanding Māori interests within Tāmaki Makaurau.
