In this role you will contribute to the design, development and engineering of precision manufacturing tasks and processes, through innovative design practices.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings and instructions, breaking down the tasks into a plan
  • Assist with the design of prototypes, tools and equipment using computer aided design (CAD) software
  • Interpret geotechnical data and transfer this into 3D models, using 3D printing processes
  • Provide technical support and advice for research / technology projects
  • Carry out maintenance checks on machinery and instruments
  • Maintain strong working relationships and networks
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced team members
  • About you

    You will have a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 4 Machining) and have experience working as a toolmaker, machinist or mechanical / product engineer.

    You will also have experience using CAD / CAM software and CNC machining processes and operations.

    You will have strong mathematical skills, practical skills to operate tools and machinery and welding skills, as well as knowledge of engineering drawing principles and the ability to interpret plans and drawings into prototypes, based on the client's brief and scope.

    With your excellent communication and relationship skills, you will prioritise and manage competing demands and expectations with technical and scientific staff with diplomacy and tact.

    The preferred candidate must be physically fit and capable of standing at a machine for periods of time.

    Experience with 3D printing processes, pneumatics and hydraulics and work experience in a scientific research and development workshop environment is desirable, but not essential.
