About the role

We are looking for someone who is passionate about data, keen to get involved in challenging initiatives, and wants to work across a large, varied organisation.

Your work week will be varied but rewarding, fast paced, and exposure to senior leaders and data leaders will be high.

As an Advisor in Insights and Data Transformation (IDx), you will grow your career in a nimble and close-knit reporting to the Chief Data and Insights Officer.

You will contribute to initiatives to solve MBIE and cross-agency challenges, provide advice to teams on data and insights capability, and collaborate in cross-MBIE partnerships to co-design and implement solutions.

You will be keen to develop your skills and to engage and support staff to help further strengthen data culture and talent across MBIE.

You will also have a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement and generating new ideas and ways of doing things.

About the group :

Insights and Data Transformation (IDx) is a cross MBIE strategic change programme within MBIE's Digital, Data and Insights (DDI) group.

IDx leads change to empower MBIE with data to grow Aotearoa New Zealand for all. The IDx team are located in Wellington and Auckland.

MBIE is critical to the government data system. We have accountabilities to provide data and insights to the system and to comply with commitments.

Data is the lifeblood of MBIE it connects our diverse responsibilities. Data enables us to make decisions that are based on proof so that we know with confidence what we need to do to support our customers.

  • MBIE's Empowered by Data Roadmap 2021-23 lifts our ability to meet government's data needs. It sets three goals : (1) insights for impact;
  • 2) data culture and talent; (3) strong data foundations. Ten initiatives in 2021-23 will drive progress towards these goals across MBIE.

    IDx leads change by envisioning the future and driving the change programme for data and insights. We challenge thinking by identifying future trends, monitoring risks and championing improvement and innovation.

    We connect the dots by showing public sector data leadership and enabling collaboration. We get it done right by monitoring progress and measuring maturity.

    Skills and Experience :

    We are keen to hear from you if you have :

  • Interest in the evolving government data system and the role of data-enabled insights
  • Knowledge and experience in data management, data science, statistics, qualitative research or a related area
  • Ability to introduce new ways of looking at problems and adopt creative new approaches
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships and to foster trust and credibility with diverse stakeholders
  • A proactive, can-do attitude with a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • Previous public sector experience is preferred but not essential
  • Exceptional teamwork and collaborative abilities and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise with others
  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or New Zealand permanent residents.
