Whakatipu Te Kakano : Growing the Seed.’

Reporting to DCE Māori, this new role is responding to the growing need for Mātauranga Māori in our community of employers and students of MIT.

The Māori Education Team, Te Tari Mātauranga Māori (TTMM), have developed and delivered Mātauranga Māori training (on campus and on-line) for students, businesses, organisations and communities and due to their success, we are seeking a full time permanent Lecturer to join the team and deliver training for 2022.

As well as teaching, the Mātauranga Māori Lecturer will have a role in supporting the DCE Māori and the TTMM Team with advising, guiding, informing and educating about Tikanga Māori processes as they happen on the marae and across the organisation.

The role will provide support across MIT when required including promoting the use of Te Reo Māori, developing understanding of Mātauranga Māori, working with Kaupapa Māori and supporting the provision of Tikanga Māori.

This varied role will draw upon your use Te Reo Māori, your understanding of Mātauranga Maori, your experience with Tikanga Māori and your ability to work under Kaupapa Maori.

You could be teaching courses online or on campus, marketing our programmes in the community, networking with key stakeholders throughout the region or supporting the provision of Tikanga Māori across the organisation.

As part of our TTMM team you will assist our the DCE Māori with ensuring MIT’s obligations, responsibilities and commitments to Te Tiriti o Waitangi are being met.

The successful applicant will hav e :

  • A teaching qualification ideally in Te Reo & Mātauranga Māori
  • Experience teaching at tertiary education level
  • Fluency in written and spoken Te Reo Māori
  • Experience writing and developing Mātauranga Māori academic programmes
  • Current Full New Zealand Drivers License
  • Experience working with adult learners would be advantageous.
  • The diversity of this role requires you to bring experience working in a multicultural environment, and confidence to liaise with a range on internal and external stakeholders.

    Some flexibility will be needed to teach evening or weekend classes if required.
