What you will doBased in Whenuapai, the Principal Occupational Hygienist is responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing management of a comprehensive occupational hygiene programme for the RNZAF.
The programme supports the RNZAF Strategic Plan to deliver a strong airworthiness and safety culture (AF8).In this role you will also lead and supervise other Directorate of Air Force Safety & Health (DASH) staff to meet and maintain minimum legislative competency standards.
This also includes specific duties relating to substances hazardous to health. These capabilities are provided to all RNZAF Bases, and all NZ based exercises and overseas deployments involving RNZAF personnel.
What we need We are seeking a person with significant and relevant occupational hygiene experience who has worked at a senior level.
Alternatively this experience may be in the form of work undertaken while under the supervision of a professional hygienist.
Ideally you will have, or be working towards, an internationally recognised occupational hygiene qualification that is approved by the NZ Occupational Hygiene Society.
Having a good working knowledge of the relevant legislation, you will also be a member of a recognised hygiene organisation.
Delivering and developing training courses to professional groups isn't new for you. You are a confident communicator, both orally and in written form, and are more than happy to engage with a wide range of people across the organisation.
The point of difference in this role is that you will be supporting flying operations which will require you to carry out assessments in an aircraft environment.
A good level of physical fitness will ensure that you can perform all job related tasks, such as working at heights or in confined spaces and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
