The Senior Environmental Specialist is responsible for implementation of the AT Environment Action Plan and delivery of the associated work programmes.

The role involves providing specialist technical advice to AT project managers, planners and external parties (e.g. developers) to ensure AT delivers a consistent approach to environmental practices across the business.

The Senior Environmental Specialist will work closely with the Design Office and contribute to the Design Review Panel, influencing project designs to ensure alignment with and delivery of the AT environmental outcomes.

The role will also contribute to broader sustainability, climate adaptation and emissions work across AT.

Key responsibilities will include :

  • Leading the implementation of the work programme to Manage Our Discharges across our road network
  • The implementation of Greening our Network programme to improve environmental outcomes across the AT transport network
  • Build and deliver comprehensive work programmes to minimise construction and maintenance waste streams and increase the use of recycled materials
  • The development and coordination of the processes required to implement environmental actions across the breadth of AT projects
  • The evaluation of new materials and products proposed for the transport network (environmental impact assessments)
  • Reporting on data collated for each of the 5 target areas - including fish passage reporting and water conservation
  • What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology, or Geology or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in relevant environmental or engineering field
  • Expert knowledge in one of these areas water, ecology or geology
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental legislation and standards
  • Desirable but not essential : knowledge or experience with transport operations, climate change environmental impacts and experience with GIS.
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification would be an advantage.
