We are seeking to appoint a new Manager Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE).

As a member of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s leadership team the Manager will be responsible for working with the Director to ensure the success of the CIE, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub, Unleash Space, and 5G Lab.

The Manager will lead the Programme and Unleash Space team to design, develop and deliver a comprehensive set of experiential programmes that help student (of all levels, undergraduate to PhD) and staff from all faculties within the University of Auckland to form ideas, prototype, build their entrepreneurial mindset and capability and eventually launch and grow commercial and social ventures.

As well as growing a community of makers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. The Manager leads the team to deliver on the operational plan.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Strategy, Planning and Decision Making - In conjunction with the Director, and other senior CIE team members develop the strategic plan for the CIE.
  • Deliver an exceptional experience that builds the commercialisation capabilities of students, researchers, and working professionals engaged in finding pathways to market.

  • Staff leadership - Be a role model, demonstrating strong and effective people management to staff through on-going constructive feedback, mentoring and coaching.
  • Operational Management - Develop and deliver programmes and pathways, market and promote CIE offerings and lead other operational activities, ensuring that the Centre is the focal point for advancing teaching, research and the development and promotion of innovation, commercialisation and entrepreneurship across the University of Auckland.
  • Relationship Management - Promote high levels of service and relationship building with internal and external stakeholders and strong collegial relationships within the Business School and stimulate cross-faculty engagement across the University.
  • Financial Management Plan and deliver programmes effectively within the allocated budget.
  • Continuous Improvement - Partner with the University’s faculties to stimulate the development of an entrepreneurial mind-set in their students and staff through Velocity, Unleash Space and other CIE initiatives.

    About you He kōrero mōu

    We are seeking someone with good commercial experience with time at a mid-senior level and knowledge of the Auckland region major organisations and its entrepreneurial ecosystem, or knowledge of and practical experience in another well-developed entrepreneurial ecosystem overseas.

    You will have proven people management and leadership skills taking a values-led coaching approach. You’ll also need strong stakeholder management, together with a commitment to results oriented, collaborative ways of working.

    A good knowledge of financial management is needed as is a continuous improvement mindset. Experience and / or knowledge of the academic environment would be ideal as is an interest in education and the development of University students and staff.

    Strong data and analysis skills are also desirable.
