About the role

Every day over 9,000 Corrections staff manage approximately 8,500 prisoners, and 30,000

offenders serving sentences and orders in the community. As the largest public sector

agency, Ara Poutama has a vital role in maintaining the safety and wellbeing of the

community, and in changing the lives of those within our care.

Emergencies and other disruptions outside of our control significantly impact the welfare and wellbeing of those in our care and the staff that are relied on to manage many of New Zealand's most difficult and dangerous people.

They also have the potential to impact the programmes, pathways and outcomes of Ara Poutama's strategy - Hōkai Rangi.

There are 4 Senior Adviser positions available in the following locations, servicing our corporate offices, Community Corrections, and Prisons within each region :

  • Lower North (including Wellington, Hawkes Bay and Palmerston North)
  • Central (including Waikato and Central Plateau)
  • Northern (including Northland, and the wider Auckland area)
  • Southern (all of the South Island)
  • As the Senior Adviser Emergency Management and Business Continuity, you will be responsible for providing expert advice to support the delivery of the Department's Emergency Management and Business Continuity strategies to lift our capability, including supporting emergency and incident responses in the region (EOC and ECC), training, planning, exercising and conformance with Protective Security Requirements within your region.

    Your accountabilities will include :

  • Contributing to the development of emergency management and business continuity policy, systems and framework and delivering it!
  • Developing and implementing processes, procedures and guidelines to support emergency management and business continuity operational practice
  • Managing portfolio's, project's and activities in accordance with the work programme
  • Representing Ara Poutama at and participating in multi-agency emergency management and business continuity groups within your region
  • Supporting the Principal Adviser, and your Regional Leadership teamby providing expert advice on emergency management and business continuity to stakeholders

    As a Senior Adviser in the Region (reporting the Principal Adviser in Wellington) you will be working autonomously a large amount of the time so your ability to communicate and maintain relationships effectively is paramount.

    You will utilise your in-depth experience in Emergency Management and Business Continuity implementation in this role as you work with the Principal Adviser and Regional Leadership teams to ensure internal stakeholders and management are on board and contributing to the teams' goals.

    You will have strong organisation skills and the ability to work well under pressure.

    Applicants must be qualified in Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) Level 4.

    As these positions are regionally based, there is a large amount of flexibility in where successful applicants can be based, but must be within the region your are applying for.
