As a Principal Consultant, you will provide technical leadership across predominantly customer-facing (but some internal) projects of a large scale and / or high degree of complexity.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable leading the conversation with our customers. You will understand and be able to clearly articulate market trends and emerging technologies.

You will work collaboratively across the Spark Group engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will also work with the sales teams promoting Spark services to our customers.

This role comes with an appropriate degree of accountability which we would expect to see exercised judiciously.

WHO YOU REPORT TO

  • You will report to the Cloud & Infrastructure Chapter Lead
  • WHAT YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Providing strategic thought leadership, technical direction and consultancy to clients both internally and externally
  • Take full responsibility for overall technical oversight of key programmes and projects
  • Contribute to programme and project planning as required
  • Regularly contribute to the development of the Cloud and Infrastructure Chapter
  • Take an active role in business development of net-new or follow on engagements
  • Engage and build relationships with our customers architecture practices
  • Responsible for analysing, architecting and overseeing solutions which address our customers required outcomes
  • Maintain currency in key Spark products and services
  • Build and maintain contacts and relationships with clients, identifying new business opportunities through pre and post sales activities
  • Write technical proposals, architectures, high level design documents, options papers and statements of work
  • Mentor and train more junior consultants and provide leadership to consultants on more complex client programmes and projects
  • WHAT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU NEED

  • Highly proficient in cloud and on-premises infrastructure and application technologies; particularly the Microsoft stack
  • We value experience and typically see 10 - 15 years for these roles but our preference will always be for competence over tenure
  • A sound understanding of external factors influencing our customers technology decisions
  • Significant exposure to enterprise level customers with complex ICT Landscapes
  • Understanding of business drivers for technology solutions - both fit for purpose customer solutions and a strong sense of good business acumen for Spark
  • Comfortable working with high level customer outcomes
  • Relevant industry certifications and / or equivalent experience
  • Customer focused - experience in working in a managed services relationship would be helpful
  • Commercial awareness
  • Strong ability to communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • An appreciation of the need for design patterns / architectures
  • An in-depth understanding of All of Government common capabilities
  • Ideally an architecture framework qualification such as TOGAF

  • Migration of applications and services to the cloud
  • SaaS deployment and integration
  • Hosting services - other IaaS providers e.g. NZ AoG providers, AWS, GCP
  • Automation - Infrastructure as Code and Configuration as Code
  • Agile, DevOps and CI / CD pipeline skills
  • Spark Professional Services is strongly aligned with Microsoft technologies. We recognise and expect however that skills / principles are transferable so will be more interested in your level of experience, expertise, and passion rather than the products you have used.
