About the project
The City Rail Link (CRL) Project is a game changer for Auckland and is the largest transport infrastructure project ever undertaken in New Zealand.
The CRL is a 3.45km twin tunnel, transforming the dead-end station at Britomart, creating two new stations at Aotea and Karangahape Road and reconnecting to the network at a redeveloped Mt Eden station.
The Link Alliance is a consortium of local and international construction companies responsible for delivering the tunnelling, stations and the systems contracts.
These companies include Vinci Construction Grands Project, Downer NZ Ltd, Soletanche Bachy International NZ Limited, WSP Opus (NZ) Limited, AECOM New Zealand Limited and Tonkin + Taylor Limited.
About the role
As a Tunnel Project Engineer with the mined tunnel team, your days will be busy and varied, so a flexible attitude is essential.
Your role will be to manage all construction related aspects of the tunnelling operations, develop and maintain strong relationships with the shift Foreman and crew and ensure works are complete as per design and as per the excavation permit (Permit to Tunnel).
You will also have a quality and safety ethos and perform audits and checks to ensure compliance with Health & Safety, quality and environmental policies.
Understanding the Permit to Tunnel (PTT) and ensuring excavation sequence and support compliance on site against this document
Safety at forefront of mind, ability to speak out and make action to continually improve all safety aspects of the project.
Completion of site safety audits and action outcomes
Ability to read, understand and follow design drawings
Good knowledge of concrete (shotcrete), including testing slump, cylinders, fibre count, beam end test, spraying of core panels, flexural panels
Completion of all associated QA on a daily basis all information tracked and logged
Daily production tracking excavation, consumables (bolts, grout, shotcrete, steel sets, and lattice girders) and assistance with development of a formal shift report
Completing on site material testing including short term shotcrete strength, rock bolt pull test, shotcrete slump test (if required) and ensuring shotcrete test panels are sprayed as required
Work closely with Geotechnical Engineer, Tunnelling Supervisor, Project Engineer and Surveyor
About you :
Have a BE qualification or Diploma in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
Significant experience in tunnelling
Proven practical experience in a contracting environment
Excellent problem-solving ability
Strong work ethic and ability to work on shift
A good health and safety related track record
Be keen to learn and develop your career
This position is fixed term through to the end of construction in 2022.
