Orthopaedic Registrar 2019

Hawkes Bay District Health Board

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi. Engari, he toa takitini.

Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.

There are exciting opportunities for Registrars to join the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board in full time positions. Applications are invited for the position of Medical Registrars for 2019 training year commencing December 2018.

The Orthopaedic Department offer supportive working conditions and are committed to excellent teaching.

Our District Health Board is large enough to provide variety and depth of work experience, with good support and supervision, yet small enough to be a friendly team with good social interaction.

Hawke's Bay Hospital is a 400 bed hospital providing acute and elective care for the Hawke's Bay region. We have strengthening Primary and Community health services and an increasingly integrated approach to health and health care.

Working within a team of nine registrars, having the full support of nine Orthopaedic Surgeons and work closely with four House Officers, the Registrars are responsible for the day to day management of inpatients under the care of the designated Consultant.

They are also responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to hospital acutely with orthopaedic problems.

These may be patients referred for admission on acute days or be patients who have previously been cared for by the team and whom the team has accepted for re-admission.

There is a tremendous opportunity to enhance both trauma and elective surgical exposure and experience as we have a new state of the art orthopaedic theatre with daily consultant led trauma lists.

While enjoying a wide variety of inpatient cases, you will also be expected to attend outpatient clinics, theatre and clinical meetings including Grand Round, X-

ray and Orthopaedic meetings. We are accredited for the RACS Surgical Education and Training (SET) program.

Ideal applicants should have at least 2 years post graduate experience and have completed a placement within Orthopaedic surgery.

We are big enough to offer variety, challenge, quality learning and development opportunities and collegial support. At the same time we are small enough that friendships flourish, commuting can be fun (nearly 200km of cycle trails connect the main centres of Napier, Hastings and Clive) and we take your work / leisure life balance seriously (supporting staff wellness is an organisational KPI).

The combination of fantastic weather, stunning scenery, beaches, world-class trout-fishing, easy access to the outdoors and the Central Plateau ski-

fields, established food and wine experiences and a high performing hospital make Hawke’s Bay an ideal work / lifestyle destination.

You won’t find this opportunity just anywhere, and when you combine this with the chance to live in New Zealand’s own piece of paradise, you have to ask yourself why work anywhere else ?

Take a stroll through the and get yourself to Hawke’s Bay!
