  • LabPLUS is the laboratory service of Auckland District Health Board, providing a specialist diagnostic service to Auckland City Hospital, Starship Children’s Hospital and GreenLane Clinical Centre.

    LabPLUS is also a major referral laboratory for specialised laboratory tests originating from hospitals and community laboratories throughout New Zealand and the Pacific islands.

    The department runs a highly specialised service for inborn errors of metabolism and biochemical genetics and there are close ties with the Clinical Metabolic Service.

    A Technical Specialist is required to oversee testing in the area (routine running and trouble-shooting of existing assays), train staff, set up new methods, manage documentation and assist with ensuring IANZ accreditation requirements are fulfilled.

    Applicants will need to have recent demonstrable skills in both automated and manual methodologies. Experience with gas chromatography, tandem mass spectrometry and UPLC would be advantageous along with an understanding of biochemical pathways.

    Attention to detail, accuracy, computer skills and excellent time management are a pre-requisite. The role is part of a small team and the ability to work closely with others is essential.

    Familiarity with the ISO15189 standard and an understanding of process improvement is also required in order to lead quality initiatives.

    A current annual practicing certificate and registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand is essential.

    The position is full time working rostered shifts from Monday-Sunday.
