We are looking for a Procurement Specialist, to provide expert advice, leadership and guidance to business units on procurement processes and practices in a Centre led procurement team.

In this role, you will ensure that procurement processes deliver the right outcomes for the council and the people of Tauranga City.

You'll be required to advise on best practice procurement, that delivers fit-for-purpose solutions and great public value.

You will also have the opportunity to actively participate in ongoing improvements to the procurement function.

  • As an senior and experienced procurement professional, you'll be expected to be able to provide expert advice and leadership to business units and Capital Assurance Division in the development of their category strategies;
  • make recommendations to management and staff on complex, difficult and unusual procurement issues, challenges, and strategies;
  • develop and manage effective procurement technology and systems; and actively participate in lifting the profile of Procurement at TCC.

    You will report to the Procurement Leader, and be based in central Tauranga.

    To be considered for this position, you must have :

  • Proven experience as a procurement professional, with at least 5 years' experience
  • Experience developing category strategy and / or leading strategic procurement activity
  • Experience leading a wide range of procurement activity, including high value, complex, high risk procurement across a wide range of categories
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Strategic thinker
  • Ability to think outside of the box to deliver the right outcomes
  • Experience in developing procurement and contract documentation to a high standard
  • Strong written, oral and presentation skills
  • Ability to form and foster collaborative relationships
  • Strong computing skills and a good working knowledge of procurement systems
  • Current Full Drivers Licence
  • You must be commercially-savvy, with proven relationship building capability. Ideally, you may also have a formal qualification relevant to procurement, and sound knowledge of all aspects of the NZ Government procurement reforms.
