Auckland Airport
Auckland, NZ

  • A rare opportunity to own and be accountable for all utilities assets supplying New Zealand’s gateway airport, including utility networks equivalent to that of a small city.
  • Take a strategic look at our utilities networks and assets and decide how we’ll support the major expansion plans we’re about to start work on.
  • We're Auckland Airport. The chances are you've already met us, driven into or flown out of our airport, or at least know friends or family who have.

You may have wondered at times, how it all comes together. The short answer is : It's our people.

The Airport precinct is akin to a small city with a community of diverse businesses and stakeholders who are serviced by a complex network of utilities and assets that we own (which makes us a bit unique).

We’re looking for someone who’ll join our Operations team to not only ensure the successful, safe and compliant delivery of day-to-day operations , but also determine the ways in which we’ll enable the expansion plans recently green-lit by our Board.

    The role

Filling the role of asset owner, you’ll take a strategic look at our utilities networks , understand current capacity, compliance, integrity, resilience and performance, determine future requirements and ensure the right plans and resources are in place to support our aspirations of global exemplar.

The exciting part of this role is not only its strategic, future focus, but also the opportunity to truly own and be accountable for electricity, water, gas, and jet fuel supply across a large site.

The day-to-day performance of operational assets is highly dependent on the asset owner’s ability to set high standards for asset condition, reliability and resilience, and to hold internal and external service providers to account for maintaining the operational assets to the required standards, at a cost that is commercially acceptable to Auckland Airport and its customers.

It’ll be equal parts challenging and rewarding, but you’ll have the support of the wider Auckland Airport team to ensure your success.

Adding to that, your ability to quickly build relationships with regulators, upstream suppliers, downstream users and airport stakeholders means that you will have the rapport and credibility to get the job done.

    The ideal person

The requisite experience at senior, strategic or management consulting level in the utilities sector is a given, and you’re also someone who :

  • Has systems thinking skills and a strong understanding of infrastructure asset management, utilities asset engineering, and / or utilities asset operations.
  • Has excellent leadership skills along with the behaviours and presence to interact well at senior leadership and Board level.
  • Has an understanding of relevant compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Has a proven track record of asset and commercial performance optimisation.
  • Brings a collaborative approach to achieving results and the influencing skills to get people on board.
  • The team

The Airport Assets and Commercial team is responsible for a range of airport aeronautical and operational assets that need to work in harmony on a 24 / 7, 365 basis including safety-critical runway and airfield assets, jet fuel supply, large buildings with complex mechanical, electrical and electronic systems, essential airport utility infrastructure, sophisticated plant and equipment, and numerous technology hardware and software assets.

    The benefits

Aside from the friendly, welcoming, team-focused culture, we offer our permanent employees free life and income protection insurance, free car parking, discounted medical insurance and more.

It’s a place, and a role, where you can make a big difference and see tangible results from your efforts.
