Project Manager - Hutt Road and Thorndon Quay

12 month fixed term contract with the potential to extend.

Wellington City Council is advertising this role on be-half of the Let's Get Wellington Moving (LGWM) programme of work.

The $6.4 billion LGWM programme is a joint initiative between Wellington City Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council, and the New Zealand Transport Agency.

Let's Get Wellington Moving (LGWM) is working with the people of Wellington to develop a transport system that supports their aspirations for how the city looks, feels, and functions.

Our vision is to build a great harbour city, accessible to all, with attractive places, shared streets, and efficient local and regional journeys.

To realise LGWM's vision, the programme is focused on moving more people with fewer vehicles.

A key step in delivering this vision is to facilitate the transformation of the Thorndon Quay and Hutt Road corridor to ensure that it is :

  • ready to provide for enhanced public transport and cycling connectivity fit for a 2036 future;
  • adaptable to future land use change and development.
  • In this role, you will join the Early Delivery team and will take the Thorndon Quay and Hutt Road project through the phases of single-stage business case development : from confirming the strategic case, through the option development process, to identifying a recommended programme of works;
  • delivering 'quick wins' physical works; and subsequently overseeing the pre-implementation stage for the substantive physical works.

    To achieve this you will

  • Lead internal and external (consultant and contractor) resource to deliver a robust, evidence-based business case and associated early physical works for the Thorndon Quay and Hutt Road corridor.
  • Collaborate with the wider LGWM team to ensure that the solutions for Thorndon Quay and Hutt Road are integrated into the broader programme of work.
  • Lead engagement and stakeholder management activities with a broad group of internal (eg Councillors) and external (eg business owners) stakeholders to deliver successful short and long term solutions.
  • You will work amongst some of the best practitioners in the industry and join a high-performaning, passionate and collegial team.

    You will sit within the core LGWM team and interact with the project managers leading other key initiatives such as Mass Rapid Transit, State Highway Improvements and the Golden Mile.

    To be successful you will have :

  • Extensive experience with transport projects in complex urban environments
  • Led the development and delivery of robust and credible business cases for capital projects in excess of $20 million.
  • Technical and project leadership experience, with an extensive background in the delivery of physical works in a complex operating environment.
  • An understanding of or experience in multi modal transport environments
  • Built and led teams of consultants and contractors to deliver a programme of work.
  • This is a unique opportunity to be part of the LGWM team from the outset and deliver one of the first city-shaping LGWM projects.

    Applications for this role will close on Friday, 13 December 2019. If you need further information, please get in touch with Lucie - Lucie.Desrosiers
