About the role

As Principal Analyst, you will lead a data and analytics programme that contributes to monitoring, research and evaluation of immigration outcomes of people coming to New Zealand as well as the contribution of immigration to the economy.

You will work closely with Policy colleagues to support the development of evidence-based immigration policy settings, and with Immigration New Zealand data teams to better respond to information needs of key stakeholders.

As a thought leader, you will provide strategic direction to the team's data and analytics work programme, ensuring fit-for-purpose tools and data products.

You will bring new ideas, techniques and knowledge to enhance the analysis and reporting of migration statistics. You will also lend your expertise in generating insights to inform research and policy discussions in the immigration space.

A background in Economics or Statistics would be an advantage.

Skills and experience

We are keen to hear from you if you meet several of the following requirements :

  • An in-depth knowledge of research, technical or analytical disciplines and processes, including latest developments in techniques and practices
  • Experience in successfully leading large and complex projects, taking into account both strategic and short-term needs, and using data from multiple sources including administrative data
  • Excellent communication, writing and coaching skills and a desire to embed a culture of excellence in the Branch
  • Experience in influencing policy makers and other stakeholders using a relationship approach
  • Know the value of collaboration, and are confident in working with others with diverse skills sets and perspectives.
  • A tertiary qualification (preferably post-graduate)
