Selwyn District Council supports 65,000 residents and we are committed to delivering smart and innovative services, facilities and infrastructure to our district.

We have a huge part to play in the recovery of our district following recent events and Selwyn District Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to join Council's Audit and Risk Subcommittee as an independent member.

The person we are seeking is one who will challenge our thinking and provide further knowledge to the Audit and Risk table.

The Audit and Risk Subcommittee meets 11 times per year. The Subcommittee's role is to support and advise Council in discharging its responsibility with a work programme focused on strengthening Council's control environment and management of risks.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following :

  • Experience in a governance role
  • Business improvement experience including following-through on audit recommendations
  • Experience in the public sector - either in senior management or governance
  • Experience in the development and / or implementation of a risk culture
  • Understanding the role and value of an Audit and Risk committee
  • Understanding of internal control and assurance frameworks
  • The ability to be impartial and independent at all times
  • The ability to work constructively with both committee members and management to achieve improvements
  • The capability to apply the appropriate time and effort to the position
  • The expectations would be that our independent person would be available to attend each meeting, adequately prepare for meetings, and would be available to the Chair and fellow Subcommittee members as required under normal governance arrangements.

    This is a remunerated position and the initial appointment will be for a four year period through to 30 June 2024.
