Senior Policy Planner

It's an exciting time to be in Invercargill and join a future focused Council.

Waihōpai Invercargill is New Zealand's southernmost city and the heart and hub of Southland. We're known for our lush green spaces like Queens Park, our long summer daylight hours and our local legend Burt Munro.

Our city has character, charm and a laidback atmosphere. There's outstanding nature reserves, Ōreti Beach, the Waihōpai River, a lively restaurant scene and a sensible gridded layout with wide streets and a 10-minute drive to work.

We are in a chapter of immense growth, building a vibrant city centre and reinvigorating our culture and spaces, and this is an exciting time to join a Council that is focused on the future of our people and our city.

We have an opportunity for a motivated and energetic individual to join our Planning and Building Services team as a Senior Policy Planner.

You will be part of a policy team that encourages innovation and is focused on providing responsive user-friendly services.

As a Senior Policy Planner you will be involved in a diverse range of planning and policy activities predominantly researching, developing, processing and reporting on Resource Management Policy - with the District Plan being the key focus.

While our District Plan has recently been reviewed and made operative, you will work with the Planning team to keep this up-to-date, relevant to the community's aspirations and to align our policies with regional and national direction.

Within this role you will plan and implement effective public consultation processes, including providing guidance and advice to a wide range of clients.

We are looking for someone who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Resource Management or a related discipline, with at least five years' experience working in Resource Management or a related field.

If you are looking for an opportunity where you will not only contribute to the improvement of our region but also make a real-life difference to the community, then apply today.

At Invercargill City Council we pride ourselves on our values - positivity, respect, responsibility and above and beyond.

Finding the right fit for our team is really important to us and we work hard to provide an environment reflective of these values.

For more information please see the full job description or contact the Invercargill City Council on (03) 211 1777.

Applications close 29 May 2022. Please note applications will be processed as they are received and we encourage you to apply early.

With the current border and quarantine restrictions in place, successful applicants must be legally entitled to live and work in New Zealand.

While all applications will be reviewed, first priority will be given to those applicants who are currently residing in New Zealand.
