About the role : This is a 12 month fixed term opportunity. The key responsibility of this role is to provide specialist investigative functions for Maritime New Zealand.
The role uses a variety of techniques to investigate a diverse range of compliance and safety matters. The subject matter includes accidents and incidents in the maritime transport sector, serious harm injuries, fit and proper person matters, joint agency investigations, and covert investigations into non-compliant or criminal behaviour.
It is a requirement of this position for the person to hold warrants under the Maritime Transport Act and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
Necessary training will be provided as part of the position. Our ideal candidate will have a maritime and / or accident / incident investigation background.
Knowledge of legal interpretation and judicial processes would be an advantage, and well developed analytical and interpersonal skills are vital.
You will need to be able to self-motivate and work independently. The successful candidate will need to have a current and clean Driver Licence and be available to travel within NZ at short notice.
About the team : The Investigations team supports Maritime NZ's front-line compliance operations and risk-based compliance activities to achieve improved safety outcomes.
It also holds the national investigation portfolio and responds to the most serious and complex of maritime incidents and accidents.
In this capacity, the team is responsible for increasing the Compliance Group's investigation standard and capability through training and mentoring frontline staff and their managers.
