    Transpower owns and operates the National Grid - the high voltage transmission network connecting areas of electricity generation with towns and cities across Aotearoa.

    Our Data and Analytics team is located at the centre of the organisation. They enable an eco-system for fact-based decision-making to guide better data driven decisions, including asset management and investment, grid operations (ensuring continuous electricity supply), and market trading (carbon, gas, and electricity).

    The team supports the business by investigating and interrogating our data to create new value which flows from one part of the business to another and will ultimately help in achieving our strategy and a more renewable energy future.

    The Opportunity

    As a key member of the Analytics Practice and wider Data and Analytics team you'll develop and manage impactful analytics solutions.

    You'll enjoy varied work that will stretch and stimulate you. Collaborating enterprise wide, you'll be able to fully utilise both your technical capability and soft skills to :

  • enable critical decision making through the use of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence techniques
  • successfully deliver an enhanced and augmented, facts-based decision-making foundation that supports all levels of decisions - from "big bet" / long-term, to daily business processes
  • develop solutions and produce high quality and accurate analytics and intelligent models
  • build organisational capability and enable communities of practice in the analytics and data science space
  • ensure work is clearly documented and understandable so others can replicate results

    What will you bring?

    You are someone with enduring professional curiosity who approaches problems from varied perspectives. Your outstanding communication and influencing skills and problem-solving ability underpins the way you generate information and insights that provoke action.

    Experience working in large (ideally technical) corporate environments with vast amounts of structured and unstructured data from a range of sources will have honed your ability to deliver solutions to internal customer groups and stakeholders.

    To be shortlisted your CV and cover letter will clearly convey

  • An extensive and demonstrable data science and analytical skillset, including advanced statistics and artificial intelligence techniques (e.
  • g. visual analytics, machine learning) using Python

  • Proven ability in developing and delivering pragmatic analytic solutions for a wide range of business problems
  • Proficiency in utilising data visualisation tools including Microsoft Power BI
  • Experience in developing decision support models and implementing maintainable, scalable, and high-quality analytics solutions using a range of technologies, on-premise and in cloud platforms e.
  • g. Cloudera, AWS, Azure, Snowflake

  • Demonstrated experience presenting information and facilitating in both written and verbal form
  • Whilst not essential - qualifications that hone problem solving skills e.g. Engineering Science, Electrical and Electronic / Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering will be highly regarded.
