  • The purpose of this new position is to support Waka Kotahi to deliver on its responsibilities, obligations and commitments to Iwi / Māori and to fulfil Te Ara Kotahi Our Māori Strategy.

    Te Ara Kotahi provides strategic direction to Waka Kotahi on how we work with and respond to Māori as the Crown's Treaty partner, and what this means for how we do business.

    As a Pou Ārahi you will be a member of the Regional Leadership Team to support our people to engage with Iwi / Māori on Waka Kotahi initiatives and projects and partner with Iwi / Māori in the work we do to support them to deliver on their land transport priorities and aspirations.

    You will also lead regional engagements with Iwi / Māori to build strong, meaningful and enduring relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

    Ko koe tēnei About you To be successful in this role, you will bring :

  • High competency and strong fluency in te reo Māori
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of tikanga Māori and able to lead cultural events.
  • Proven operational and strategic skills to enable you to provide advice on Kaupapa Māori matters.
  • Experience in promoting, advocating and implementing strategies and action plans.
  • Experience in developing and implementing policies, practices, guidelines and toolkits.
  • Experience in the management of iwi partnerships and business group relationships.
  • Proven cultural leadership ability.
  • Experience of leading, influencing and building credibility across a range of stakeholders

    Te Mātangi - Māori Partnerships is part of Te Waka Kōtuia Engagement and Partnerships and is responsible for ensuring the delivery of Te Ara Kotahi Our Māori Strategy and its supporting action plan.

    The team also support the wider business in engaging with Māori, and ensure our people have the guidance and capability to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes for both Māori and Waka Kotahi.

    You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

    You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
