About this role

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Analyst to support the Treasury's provision of financial and economic advice on the Education sector.

The Education sector is a high priority for the Government and gives you the opportunity to work on one of the most significant components of the Budget.

You will build policy, financial and budget experience and develop a wide network within Treasury and across agencies. You will be able to demonstrate high level problem solving, policy advice across a wide range of topics and be in a supportive and engaged team.

This role is located in the newly formed Communities, Learning and Work (CLaW) team picking up policy and Vote responsibility for Compulsory and Tertiary Education, Employment (relations, standards and support), Immigration, Māori Economic Development, Pacific Peoples and Women.

The team covers a broad range of exciting areas and provides opportunities to build your expertise and make connections across these policy areas.

In this role you will play a critical part in Treasury's Community, Learning and Work team through :

  • Providing advice and support to the Minister of Finance and agencies in the design and delivery of a wide range of education issues
  • Taking a strategic overview of expenditure and performance across the Education sector and Education Review Office
  • Support for financial processes, including Quality Assurance, for Vote Education and Vote Education Review Office
  • Participating in the day-to-day delivery of education policy work in the team
  • The ideal candidate will bring :

  • Experience as a policy professional, confidence in a range of core policy skills, and a good eye for detail
  • The capability to develop skills in providing economic, budget and financial advice to Ministers
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • A delivery focus and the ability to solve problems in a fast paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and a natural ability to positively influence others and offer support that drives the accomplishment of goals
