  • The Waimakariri District Council is looking for a Landscape Architect within the Community & Recreation Department who has the ability to work effectively across a wide range of projects and community initiatives.

    This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated Landscape Architect to join a progressive and customer-focused Council to deliver interesting and challenging projects that make a difference to our community.

    Only 20 minutes north of Christchurch, the Waimakariri District combines the benefits of a close knit, rural community lifestyle with exciting opportunities for design being one of the fastest growing districts in New Zealand.

    Located in the northern section of the Canterbury Plains, our district stretches from the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean, bordered by the Waimakariri River to the South and the Ashley Rakahuri River to the North.

    With less than an hour's drive, our community are able to access the recreational pursuits offered by our wonderful outdoor environment from skiing through to fishing or kite surfing.

    With the third largest population in the South Island, this district has a wide range of unique rural communities and larger townships with the advantages of a big city nearby.

    This brings abundant opportunities across a diverse range of areas, whatever your choice of living environment, it is readily available and affordable in our district.

    As a full-time position in the Design and Planning Team , the successful Landscape Architect will be a key part in delivering work for the Greenspace Unit .

    You will be working with a friendly, sociable and motivated Greenspace Unit within a highly engaged, positive Council environment.

    You will be responsible for the development of landscape designs from concept through to detailed documentation stages, community consultation, and supervising construction and contract administration.

  • You will also collaborate closely with other landscape architects and design professionals in the Council team on a wide range of projects;
  • including activity planning, design supervision and technical review. This is a great opportunity to take ownership and work closely with the public, Council, consultants, and contractors to deliver outstanding results.

    We currently have some exciting projects underway within the district including the regeneration of the former residential red-zone areas of the Waimakariri District among others .

    This role will suit a tertiary qualified Landscape Architect (BLA, MLA or equivalent) with at least 6 years' experience.

    Applicants should have prior work experience in a design and project delivery and management capacity. Strong organisation, self-management, and oral communication skills are essential for this varied position as is a desire to build and strengthen the community within which we work.

    Short-listed applicants must be prepared to undergo Police Vetting as this role is considered a Non-Core Worker Role under the Children's Act 2014
