My client a Saas tech company is looking for a UI / Product Designer to join the growing product team. The expectation is that within the next year the company will grow our user base to over 100,000 users, as well as building integrations with some major partners.

The role needs an adaptable and creative person as your core purpose will be to design and prototype experiences that users will love.

As part of a small team you’ll have a large impact on the direction of the app, and play a big part in supporting the future growth of the company.

The day to day responsibilities include :

  • Responsibility for producing visual and interactive design work that makes our apps intuitive, appealing, and uniquely on-brand
  • Working on design problems from beginning to end from concept to launch.
  • Building on our identity to own the design vision and ensure that it continues to evolve
  • Actively using creative problem solving, such as Design Thinking, to guide the design process.
  • Working closely day-to-day with UX Specialists, Product Managers, and developers.
  • Continuous improvement of product build and actively contribute to how we develop as an organisation
  • Growing a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people our products are designed for.
  • Ensuring a shared understanding of your design responsibilities across all of the business.

  • A human-centred design aesthetic, creative thinker, collaborative approach, and high EQ.
  • Design great solutions that are desirable (fulfils a human need), technologically feasible, and economically viable.
  • Ability to create, prioritise and communicate innovative designs, using wireframes (both digital and lo-fi prototypes) to visually showcase and test ideas.
  • Create high-fidelity designs, crafting the visual details using design software and / or code.
  • Promote, encourage, and be involved in user testing of your work.
  • Understand and have empathy for users of all abilities and demographics .
  • Practice sound understanding of accessible design, working towards AA
  • Accessibility standards for main actions / paths / flows in your product.
  • Outstanding communicator (written and verbal) with the ability to explain ideas simply and clearly while listening carefully to others.
  • Help out with graphic and communications design in an ad hoc manner (as they are currently a smaller organisation they will need help from time to time).
  • 3+ years’ experience of working in a product design role within a public focussed online business.
  • Excellent skills in Sketch and In Vision (or similar) as well as proficient in the use of HTML, CSS, and G-Suite.
  • Excited to work in a company making a positive change in the world, and passionately engaged in the company mission
  • Loves learning and seeks to suggest and carry out improvements to the technologies and processes used as we grow.
  • Are based in New Zealand and able to visit our Wellington office roughly once per quarter (although you can join us in the office all the time if you like!).
  • Are able to work some hours outside of 9am-5pm, for 2-3 weekly meetings with our UK team (this will reduce over the coming year as the product team shifts to be solely NZ-based).
