    The Opportunit y

    Lead the development and coordination of effective strategies and plans to underpin successful regional welfare and recovery frameworks.

    You’ll engage with the community, and relevant welfare partners and agencies, to build resilience and provide leadership before, during and after emergency events.

    Immerse yourself in a diverse work programme interacting at national, regional and local community levels, including the function of Group Welfare Manager’ for the Nelson Tasman region.

    This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. Further to this, the team have an on-call duty roster, so the availability to work out of normal working hours is essential.

    The Team

    The Civil Defence Emergency Management team is focused on building the resilience of our communities in the Nelson Tasman region.

    We assist individuals, families, businesses, and communities to prepare, respond to and recover from disasters. We make plans so we’re ready to lead the response to emergency events and coordinate the recovery afterwards.

    We are a strong, close-knit team who work in a purpose-built Emergency Operations Centre with excellent facilities, based in central Richmond.

    Your Experience

  • You’ll be technologically savvy and able to demonstrate strong operational, leadership and practical emergency management skills, or bring similar transferrable experience.
  • You’ll be well-versed in developing and implementing plans and procedures at both a strategic and operational level.
  • You’ll be a confident public speaker, have strong communication skills and have engaged successfully with social agencies and iwi.
  • You’ll have political nous, be highly organised and have the capacity to remain calm and influence others in high-stress situations.
  • A full driver’s license is required.
