    CanterburyDHB Forensics Intellectual Disability (ID) Team is on a journey of innovationand evolution in delivering the best possible care to our tāngata whaiora.

    Here, we are focusing on long-term rehabilitation and acute care interventionsof our tāngata whaiora by discovering and building on their personal strengths,and providing a supported transition back to their community.

    Deliveringa high standard of care is important to the Whaikaha team and the addition ofour new contemporary facility, which augments our existing service, allows usto offer individualised care and strengthens our ability to implement our modelof care.

    Our focusis on a person’s individual skills and abilities to maintain their independencewhilst encouraging them to develop new skills.

    We facilitate a variety ofcommunication techniques to support the person to understand theirtreatment options and to make decisions.

    We promote the person to remainengaged with the wider community to maintain their social network and advocatecontinuum of care, liaising with the community outpatient team, the residentialprovider and their caregivers to support successful discharge planning into thecommunity setting.

    We have twopermanent full time (40 hours a week) positions available.

  • Ko wai koe About You;
  • In this role, youwill be responsible for :

  • Supporting consumers to engage in meaningful activities on the ward andin the community as delegated by the services Allied Health Clinicians-thisincludes Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists and BehaviourSpecialists.
  • Also nursing shift leads out of working hours.

  • Facilitating and co-facilitating a range of 1-1 and group therapeuticactivities based on the person’s level of functioning.
  • Supporting access to community leave to support social inclusion.
  • Setting up therapeutic activities, following session plans and feedingback to the Allied Health Clinician regarding the session outcome and consumersprogress.
  • Your skills willinclude :

  • Proven experience in a setting working with individuals withintellectual disabilities is desirable but not essential.
  • In accepting this role you will be required to undertake AHA training through Career Force NZ which the CDHB will support.
