About Consentium - Kainga Ora's Building Consent Authority

Kāinga Ora is establishing a BCA - Consentium to achieve its objectives of providing homes at pace, leveraging scale and quality.

Kāinga Ora's ambitious target to build tens of thousands of state houses across a range of typologies and complexities over the next 10+ years for New Zealanders.

Consentium will be Kainga Ora's own BCA and is in the process of becoming an accredited Building Consent Authority with a focus on building control for State house builds across New Zealand.

The consenting process will be efficient, paperless, compliant targeting Residential and Commercial state house builds as well as a comprehensive nationwide retrofit programme.

About the Team

You'll be working with a group of talented new and experienced building control officers with a dynamic and fresh culture.

There's opportunities at all levels of building regulatory control including quality assurance, administration, consent processing and inspection domains.

We'll be operating out of one the newest offices in Newmarket, Auckland.

The role

Our vision is 'Building lives and communities by housing New Zealanders'. To help us achieve this we are currently recruiting for three Building Inspectors to join our recently formed National Building Consent Authority.

Reporting to the Building Inspections Team Leader, you'll provide building inspections, in support of the NZ Building Code.

  • A key responsibility of the role is consistent quality of inspections and related activity. This will mean the right processes are being followed;
  • you are appropriately allocated work within your competency, and have the right support and training.

    You'll ensure your work volumes are managed successfully and will work with other team members and staff to establish and maintain appropriate standards.

    What you'll need to bring

  • A relevant building or design qualification of experience to achieve the required NZ Building Act 2006 Regulation 18
  • A minimum current competency level of R1-R3
  • Minimum 2 years experience in building inspections in a construction management or building regulatory role
  • Good building technical knowledge, application and awareness
  • Good legislative knowledge, application and understanding
  • Sound judgement and strong decision making skills
  • An ability to achieve customer service excellence in a regulatory environment.
