We welcome applications from suitably qualified and experienced midwives to work in a variety of settings including delivery suite, maternity ward (ante and postnatal), outpatients day unit, community and Te Papaioea primary birthing unit.
We are a progressive unit and have been working on developing specialist roles such as Diabetes Midwife, Perinatal Midwife, Maternity Clinical Information Systems (MCIS) Midwife.
We also have 24 / 7 Charge Midwife / ACM leadership and other midwifery leadership opportunities. We are the only maternity unit in the country to introduce a new Induction of Labour Protocol which has dramatically reduced our caesarean section rates for women experiencing induction of labour.
Our midwives work in partnership with women and their families / whanau, collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team to deliver effective care.
Hours of work will be up to full time working rostered, rotating shifts.

We service a population of around 180,000 people across our district with key sites at Palmerston North Hospital and Horowhenua Health Centre.
Palmerston North Hospital is a 350 bed secondary hospital. The Women’s Health Unit has an eight bedded delivery suite and a 22 bedded ante / postnatal ward.
There are approximately 2000 births per year in our region.

Palmerston North Hospital is a 350 bed secondary hospital, which services an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 168,000.
In addition, the hospital is a teaching hospital, and is associated with both Auckland and Otago medical schools.
Palmerston North is a major university city and is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields, and river adventures.
Wellington the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the wine growing regions of Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa.
