The Pricing and Economics unit was established as a separate unit last year to drive improved conservation outcomes and to address the need to drive greater revenue from those who benefit from the use of conservation assets.

This is a rare opportunity to join us as we embark on the second phase of our journey by further increasing the size and capability of our team.

He angitūtanga : About the Role

As the Senior Commercial and Revenue Advisor you will be responsible for delivering advice to ensure DOC's fee setting and pricing is delivering maximum value to conservation.

You will achieve this by ensuring sound methodologies and consultation processes have been employed for determining the fees for activity on public conservation land.

Part of this will be to develop the underlying strategies and systems that enable the team to fulfil their purpose. You will also be involved in investigating the value of alternative business models to improve access, manage visitor demand and improve visitor safety.

He kōrero mōu : What we are looking for

This appointment requires technical commercial knowledge developed through a minimum of 5 years of working in a similar or related context.

You will be a confident communicator who has the ability to influence a range of stakeholders, alongside robust project management skills and evidence-based reasoning.

We are seeking an agile and cooperative team member who is comfortable collaborating with others across the wider unit, organisation and externally to deliver on key department objectives.

Please note, this position will ideally be based in Dunedin or Wellington. As a flexible employer, we are also open to other options for the right candidate.

Specific skills

  • Commercial acumen
  • An ability to lead significant pieces of work for the unit, including engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Comfort with data analysis and modelling
  • Ability to solve problems and produce tangible results
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including leadership and coaching
  • A relevant university degree or a demonstrated level of qualification
  • A broad understanding of conservation management
  • Experience in pricing strategy desirable
  • Experience or a good understanding of the tourism industry would be beneficial
