We are looking for high-performing Adviser and Senior Policy Advisers to join the Investment team at the Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry of Transport is the Government's lead adviser on transport policy. We are a small but agile Ministry which is perfect if you are after a chance to shine!
About the Investment Team
The Investment team works across the sector to influence how funding is invested to ensure the transport system shapes highly liveable places and thriving regions.
This includes leading the Crown Budget process for the transport sector and supporting the Government to develop signal and deliver its investment intentions across the nation through the development of the Government Policy Statement on land transport (which allocates over $4 billion per annum).
We advise Ministers on some of New Zealand's largest infrastructure investments, a lot of our current work for example is on the $6.
8bn transport component of the New Zealand Upgrade Programme (NZUP).

Being part of the investment team also means being able to provide and / or develop skills and capability around project / programme and policy assessment for example an understanding of concepts such as cost benefit analysis etc.

Being a Adviser
As a Policy Adviser, you'll join us from a background where you've gained solid experience in projects, problem-solving complex issues, and assessing options.
You will have been working at an Adviser level for ideally 2 years or more.
You will have some experience providing professional advice in a government, legal, consulting or industry setting. Irrespective of your background, you will be regarded as a keen learner, someone who delivers exceptional outcomes and demonstrate a great attitude and genuine desire to grow.
Working in the investment space, means it is useful if you are comfortable working with numerical information. It is useful if you have an understanding of concepts such as cost / benefit analysis, albeit if you haven't had previous experience / knowledge you are happy to learn.
Adviser Salary Band : $67,218 $94,896 based on your experience
Being a Senior Adviser
As a Senior Adviser, you'll lead projects that have a real impact on the lives of New Zealanders and speak to your work at Ministers' meetings and Select Committees.
You will join us from a background where you've gained solid experience in leading and steering projects, problem-solving complex policy issues, and assessing options.
You'll be someone who can take all the information on an issue, analyse its facets, and decide on a direction. You should be comfortable working in a numeric environment and ideally have had some knowledge / exposure to assessment techniques such as cost / benefit analysis.
You will be confident managing programmes of work to ensure efficient, targeted policy analysis and advice is provided to support the delivery of organisation and government goals.
Senior Adviser Salary Band - $93,956 - $132,643 based on your experience.
